How to have a low-stress and safe spring break

Spring break for local schools is just days away and typically marks the beginning of the spring/summer travel season. As you make plans to hit the road for popular travel destinations, Snap Dog has some travel tips to make the family travel experience safe, low stress and enjoyable!

Be private about your location and travel plans. In today’s social media-obsessed world, it’s easy to look at everything on your travel agenda as a photo opp. Take pictures, but be careful about sharing them. Keep your home safe by not alerting would-be burglars that your residence in empty while you’re on a spring break trip. Consider adjusting your social media privacy settings and making them MORE private for while you are out of town. At the very least, review your privacy settings so you know who can see what you post on social media.

Consider travel insurance. If you’ve booked a flight and hotel to get to your destination, especially if you’re traveling internationally, consider travel insurance to protect yourself should you be unable to take that trip due to last minute illness or other interruptions.

Safety check your vehicle. Are the tires aired up? Has the engine oil been recently changed? Have you checked your fluid levels? Preventative maintenance is key to keeping your car running smoothly and avoiding breakdowns, especially when away from home. We recommend a quick inspection that at least checks tires, fluids and batteries before you take a road trip, especially if you drive an older vehicle.

Avoid common spring break safety hazards. Alcohol impaired driving spikes during spring break. If traveling in an area that is popular with spring break travelers, be hyper aware of alcohol impaired drivers. If traveling with a group, designate a driver for when alcohol is flowing. Don’t ruin yours or anyone else’s spring break.

Clean your car! If your spring break plans include a road trip of any kind, swing by Snap Clean before and after your trip. It is MUCH more enjoyable to travel in a clean car, and when you return, you’ll enjoy getting back to your daily routing so much more if you have a fresh start and a clean car.
