Car washes are often wrongly thought of as some of the biggest environmental offenders in the retail business world because we use a lot of water. Our industry is, of course, a highly visible water consumer! Because of this, we’re sometimes thought of as not so great for the environment.
Oh, how wrong this assumption is!
At Snap Clean, we are committed to caring for the environment and reducing waste with every car we treat. Not only is this strategy consistent with our business values to operate in an ethical way, but it’s also makes good business sense!
While it may seem that commercial car washes use a lot more than you would if you were washing your car in the driveway, the opposite is the case. We use a variety of industry tools (like computer controlled systems and high pressure wash nozzles) to minimize usage and make every drop more powerful and effective.
We start with the best detergents and shine elements in the business. We utilize great products to clean and shine up your car, but the important thing is what we do with the byproduct of that wash.
When you wash your car in your driveway, the water you use mixes with detergents, oil, grease and dirt before flowing into the municipal water system. Unless you’re siphoning your water from your driveway into a rain barrel to water your plants or foundation, none of the water you use to wash in the driveway is reused.
At Snap Clean, we recapture approximately 90 percent of the water we use, treat it and reuse it to clean more cars. Our Velocity Water Works Reverse Osmosis System purifies water by removing spot-causing mineral contaminants. To maintain wash quality, about 10 percent of the water used in each wash is fresh, not reclaimed.
Approximately 10 percent of the water from each wash goes into the municipal water system where it can be treated and reused instead of being lost to evaporation or run off. The majority of our water is recycled and reused! Can your DIY car wash do that?
