Beat Back Pollen With a Wash and Wax from the Professionals

Now that Spring has officially arrived, we’re on the lookout for bluebonnets, pollen and spring storms! We can’t help you much with your allergies, but we do have some tips to help you keep your ride looking its best during the springtime. Here are six tips for protecting your car from uncertain spring weather.

Clean carefully. If you’re an allergy sufferer, we don’t need to tell you that pollen counts are way up. A yellow haze has begun appearing on the surfaces of car hoods and windshields and the first of the oak pollen drops has occurred. As more of our North Texas trees burst into bloom and get their leaves, we’ll see even more pollen hitting our driveways. Pollen can wreak havoc on your car’s paint job. Visit Snap Clean regularly for a professional wash and wax to protect the surface of the paint.

Be weather wise. The first of the spring and early summer storms hit North Texas this past weekend. With golf ball sized hail in some locations, homes, cars and personal property took a literal beating. Storm season generally lasts until mid to late June. Many of us don’t have the luxury of garage parking our cars. If you’re spring cleaning, include the garage in your cleaning spree to make room for your car at least temporarily. Move or even donate unused junk and call your city’s hazardous household waste disposal line to make arrangements for pickup of random old paint, chemicals and household cleaners. Bonus: once the spring storm season ends, you’ll enjoy a cleaner garage.

Quick clean between washes. Between visits to your favorite car wash, we recommend a little driveway maintenance to maintain the appearance of your car.. Before you wash, large particles need to be removed. Use a leaf blower on the low setting to remove pollen and leaves from the surface of your car without the risk of scratching the paint. Small particles of pollen, grit and dirt can then be wiped from the windshield with a soft microfiber cloth until you can visit the car wash. We do not recommend wiping down the painted surfaces of your car without washing it first because you risk grinding the particles of pollen and dust into the paint causing surface scratches.

Add a protectant layer. If you don’t regularly get a higher level wash, consider adding a protectant wax to your wash routine to make pollen easier to remove and to prevent surface scratches. Our Deluxe, Gold and Platinum washes all include our signature Total Body Protectant and Sealer Wax for the best protection.

Breathe easier. Maintain your car’s interior when you visit Snap Clean by giving the dashboard and other interior surfaces a quick wipe down with our free towels and spray cleaner. We also recommend checking your car’s cabin air filter to be sure it is clear and doing its job! This will help keep all your passengers more comfortable during allergy season.

See clearly. If your windshield and interior glass looks foggy, grab some Windex or 50/50 vinegar and water and a microfiber cloth to give it a great shine. If you don’t have microfiber handy, a few coffee filters or black and white newspaper sheets from the recycling bin will also do the trick. Coffee filters and newspaper are both more effective at cleaning glass than paper towels because they don’t leave lint behind. Keep a plastic grocery bag handy to bag the trash, and don’t worry…the newspaper will not stain the glass because glass can’t absorb the ink.
